Sustainability Leadership in Architecture

Sustainability and architecture are becoming synonymous industries. Buildings emit about half of energy emissions and three-quarters of electricity in the USA. With the demand for energy increasing along with environmental awareness, architecture is positioned to lead the trend towards sustainability.

Encouragingly, the AIA announced a “2030 Challenge,” an ambitious carbon neutrality initiative, however thus far only about 12% of their projects have met these standards. While AIA continues to trumpet that sustainably has become mainstream, only a handful of schools require it.

The AIA recognized that architecture must evolve. Six steps can incentivize the architectural industry to embrace this progressive trend: https://www.greenbiz.com/blog/2013/03/19/why-architects-must-lead-sustainable-design.
